WiFi Syncing Issues
WiFi syncing can sometimes be problematic. Follow these steps to resolve common issues.
Important Notes
- mSecure 6 cannot sync with previous versions (mSecure 3 or 4). However, you can restore data using a .msim backup file from older versions.
- WiFi syncing is not recommended on public WiFi networks.
Basic WiFi Sync Troubleshooting
Ensure you are signed into the same mSecure account on all devices:
- Check Settings > Account Settings in mSecure.
- Switch accounts if needed.
Windows Troubleshooting
For WiFi sync to work, ensure your PC is discoverable and your network is set to private:
If Using a Wired Connection:
- Click the Notifications icon on the taskbar.
- Select All Settings > Network & Internet > Ethernet.
- Click your network and enable Make this PC discoverable.
If Using a Wireless Connection:
- Click the Internet Access icon on the taskbar.
- Select Properties for your connected network.
- Under Network profile, select Private.
Mac Troubleshooting
Clear Data File to Fix Sync Issues
- Open mSecure.
- Click Help in the top menu bar.
- Hold Option and select Show Data File in Finder.
- Close mSecure.
- Delete the mSecure.mscb file.
- Reopen mSecure and sign in.
Note: Make a backup file of your data and make sure you have access to your QR code just to be secure.
General WiFi Sync Fix
Reset "Main Computer" Settings on Windows:
- Open mSecure > Settings > Sync Options.
- Disable Main Computer and confirm.
- Close and reopen mSecure.
- Re-enable Main Computer.
Reset "Main Computer" Settings on Mac:
- Open mSecure > Preferences (Command + Comma).
- Click Sync > Disable Main Computer.
- Close and reopen mSecure.
- Re-enable Main Computer.
Manually Sync Other Devices
- Android: mSecure > Menu > Sync Now
- iOS: Tap & hold the top record > Drag down & release.
- Windows: Click Sync button.
- Mac: File > Sync (Command + Shift + S).
Manual sync must be initiated from a device that is not the Main Computer.
Firewall & Antivirus Considerations
Firewall Settings:
- Ensure mSecure is allowed through your firewall.
- Windows: If mSecure is missing from Firewall settings, uninstall and reinstall the app.
- Mac: Go to System Settings > Network > Firewall and add mSecure if needed.
- mSecure uses ports 4070-4080; ensure these are open in your firewall.
Antivirus Software:
- If using third-party antivirus software, create an exception for mSecure to allow syncing.
Fixing iOS Sync Issues
If your iOS device displays "The server cannot be reached", check your local network permissions:
- Open Settings > Privacy & Security > Local Network.
- Ensure mSecure is enabled.
