WiFi Syncing Issues

Unfortunately, there are several issues that can arise while trying to sync via WiFi. Here are some basic steps you can take to fix WiFi syncing issues.  

Important: mSecure will not sync with the previous versions of mSecure. However, mSecure can restore from a .msim backup file created in the previous versions. Please refer to these articles to learn how to transfer your information from mSecure 3 or 4 to mSecure.

Basic WiFi Syncing Troubleshooting

  1. Use mSecure on all devices
  2. Make sure to use the same mSecure account on all devices
    • You can view the account being used in the Settings under Account settings in mSecure on each device.
    • Use this article to learn how to switch to a different account if needed.


When trying to use Wi-Fi syncing with Windows, please make sure you’ve set the network/ethernet setting to “Make this PC discoverable” and(or) make sure to set your network connection to a private connection in order to use Wi-Fi syncing in mSecure.

If using a wired connection on your computer

  1. Click the notifications icon on the bottom right corner of the taskbar
  2. Click “All Settings”
  3. Click “Network & Internet”
  4. Click “Ethernet”
  5. Click “Network” or the network that matches the network you’re using as the Main Computer in mSecure 5
  6. Enable the “Make this PC discoverable”

If using a wireless connection on your computer

  1. Click the Internet Access icon on the bottom right corner of the taskbar
  2. Click “Properties” for the network you’re connected to
  3. Under “Network profile, switch your network profile to “Private”
    • Do not switch your computer’s network to private if using a public WiFi connection. Also, you shouldn’t be trying to sync via WiFi using public WiFi connection…


If running into WiFi syncing issues on Mac, you might want to create a backup of mSecure 5 on your Mac, have access to your QR code, know your account email address and password, and follow these steps to fix any basic issues:

  1. Open mSecure 5
  2. Click Help in the top menu bar and hold the "Option" key on your keyboard
  3. While holding the "Option" key, select the "Show Data file in Finder" option
  4. Close mSecure 5
  5. Remove the mSecure.mscb file (move it to the trash bin or click command+delete to remove it)
  6. Sign in to your account


The first step to fix WiFi syncing issues on Mac or Windows is to disable the "Main Computer" toggle on your computer, restart mSecure 5 and re-enable the "Main Computer" toggle on the computer you are using as your main computer. Afterward, while in the main records view on your computer, perform a manual sync on another device. Restarting your devices might be needed in order to fix any port number issues or other networking issues as well.


  1. Open and unlock mSecure 5
  2. Click Settings
  3. Click Sync Options
  4. Disable the "Main Computer" toggle and confirm
  5. Close mSecure
  6. Open and unlock mSecure 5
  7. Click Settings
  8. Click Sync Options
  9. Enable the "Main Computer" toggle


  1. Open and unlock mSecure 5
  2. Click mSecure 5 from the top menu bar and select Preferences (command+comma)
  3. Click Sync
  4. Disable the "Main Computer" option
  5. Close mSecure
  6. Open and unlock mSecure 5
  7. Click mSecure 5 from the top menu bar and select Preferences (command+comma)
  8. Click Sync
  9. Enable the "Main Computer" option

Manual sync on Android: mSecure 5 > Menu > Sync Now

Manual sync on iOS: mSecure 5 > Tap and hold the top record (create a temp record if you have no records) > Drag down and release

Manual sync on Windows: mSecure 5 > Click Sync button

Manual sync on Mac: mSecure 5 > File > Sync (command+shift+S)

Manual syncing can only be initiated from a device that is not the "Main computer" when using WiFi syncing. 


By default, mSecure should be allowed incoming and outgoing connections on Mac and Windows. Please check to make sure that mSecure 5 or mSecure - Password Manager and Digital Wallet is allowed through your firewall settings. 


 If mSecure 5 is not allowed for Private communication, please enable the Private settings. You can enable the public option as well if you'd like. If mSecure - Password Manager and Digital Wallet is not listed in your Firewall settings, the easiest way to fix this issue would be to uninstall the app, restart your computer, and reinstall the app. Please make sure you have access to your authentication email before reinstalling the app. Additionally, if your information is not available on another device, a backup file will be required in order to restore your information after a reinstall. 


If mSecure 5 is not allowed incoming connections, please change it so that mSecure 5 is allowed incoming connections. If mSecure 5 is not listed, click the + button, navigate to the Applications folder, and select mSecure 5 from your applications to add it to your Firewall permissions.

Additional Firewall Software

If you use additional firewall software, you might have to allow specific ports to be used on your computer. mSecure 5 uses ports 4070-4080 to sync. Please make sure that port range is opened in your computer settings if needed.


If using additional antivirus software (beyond Microsoft Defender), you might need to create an exception for mSecure in order for mSecure to be able to sync on your computer. Please consult the help articles of the antivirus software you are using to find out how to create exceptions.

Is Your iOS Device Not Syncing?

If you have an iOS device that is stating "the server cannot be reached", try checking your System Settings to see if your device has given mSecure permission to connect to devices on your local network.

To do so, open the "Settings" application on your device and go to Privacy & Security > Local Network. Is the "mSecure" toggle switch on? Make sure it is switched on in order to sync that device via WiFi.
