Getting Started with mSecure for Windows
If you're new to mSecure, this guide will help you navigate the Windows app to manage your passwords, credit cards, secure notes, and more.
Launching mSecure
Open the App
- Click the Start Menu,
- Search for mSecure - Password Manager and Digital Wallet and click to open it.
Create a Shortcut for Easy Access
- Pin to Start or Taskbar: Right-click the mSecure icon and select "Pin to Start" or "Pin to Taskbar" for quicker access.
- Create a Desktop Shortcut: Click and drag the mSecure icon from the Start Menu to your desktop or another folder.
Creating and Managing Your Items
Viewing Your Records
When you open mSecure, you'll see a list of all stored items, such as passwords and credit cards. Click a record to view its details.
Adding a New Record
- Click the "Add Item" button (+).
- Select the record type you want to create.
- Enter the details and click the checkmark to save.
Editing a Record
- Double-click a record or click the edit (pencil icon to make changes.
- Click the checkmark to save your edits.
Selecting Multiple Records
You can select multiple records using the following methods:
- Hold Shift and click multiple records.
- Hold Ctrl and select multiple records.
- Click the Select icon and choose multiple records.
- Press Ctrl + A to select all records.
Once selected, you can mark records as favorites, change their icons or groups, or delete them.
Searching, Organizing, and Sorting Items
Searching for Records
- The Search bar at the top allows you to quickly find records.
- The focus automatically starts on the search bar for faster access.
Favorites & Show/Hide Sensitive Fields
- Click the show/hide icon to quickly display or hide sensitive information.
- Mark important records as Favorites and access them via the Favorites icon.
Sorting Records
Sort records by:
- Name
- Group
- Type
- Date
Quick Alpha Selector
Jump through your list of records using the Quick Alpha Select feature:
- Click the More options icon.
- Select "Show Groups."
- Click on the headers to quickly navigate through your records.
Filtering Records
Main Record Filters
mSecure provides quick access to different record types:
- All Items - View all records.
- Recents - See recently accessed records.
- Logins - View all login credentials.
- Credit Cards - Access saved credit card information.
- Secure Notes - Find stored secure notes.
Filtering by Groups
mSecure includes three default groups:
- Personal
- Business
- Unassigned (default for new records)
To create a custom group:
- Click the gear icon in the bottom-left corner.
- Select Groups > Add.
- Enter a group name and choose an icon.
Note: Groups will only appear in the filter if they contain records.
Filtering by Record Type
mSecure offers 22 built-in record types but allows customization:
- Create new record types in Settings > Types.
- Edit existing types or delete unused ones (except Logins, Credit Cards, and Secure Notes).
Notes: Types will only appear in the filter if they contain records.
Managing Deleted Items
- When you delete a record, it moves to the Deleted Items section.
- From there, you can restore or permanently delete records.
Additional Features & Settings
Collapse Navigation Menu
Click the menu icon in the top-left corner to collapse or expand the sidebar.
Hiding the Details Section
- When the mSecure window is small, only the main view or details section will be visible.
- Click a record to view its details, then use the back arrow (<) to return to the main view.
Locking mSecure
- Click the Lock icon to lock mSecure manually.
- mSecure Auto-Locks after 10 minutes of inactivity. You can adjust this setting in Settings > Security > Auto-Lock.
Accessing Settings
Click the gear icon in the bottom-left corner to open settings. Here, you can:
- Change app preferences.
- View account details.
- Manage groups and record types.
- Create backups.
