Migrating to mSecure 6
Are you upgrading from an older version of mSecure to mSecure 6? This guide will help you smoothly transition from mSecure 3 or 4 to the latest version.
Before You Begin
To migrate your data to mSecure 6, ensure the following:
- You have access to your mSecure database on at least one device.
- You know your password for the older version of mSecure of have a backup file from that version.

Set Up Your Account
Download mSecure 6 from your device's app store:
Once installed, create an account by clicking Sign Up. You can use the same email as your previous mSecure version, but note that mSecure 6 operates on an account system rather than being device-specific.
Note: If you receive an "Account Already Exists" message, contact [email protected] for support.
Migrating from mSecure 4 (iOS & Android)
If mSecure 4 is Installed on Your Device:
- Open mSecure 6 and click Sign In (or Sign Up, if you haven't created an account yet).
- Once logged in, mSecure 6 will prompt you to migrate your previous data.
- Click Yes.
- Enter your mSecure 4 password to decrypt your data.
Note: If you're not prompted to migrate, go to Menu > Settings > Restore from mSecure 4.
If You Have a Backup File (.msim):
- Open mSecure 6 and sign in.
- Go to Menu > Settings > Backups and tap Restore.
- Locate your backup file in your device's storage.
- Enter the password used when the backup was created.
Once entered, your data will populate in mSecure 6 and sync across your devices if syncing is enabled.
Troubleshooting (iOS & Android)
- If mSecure 4 no longer opens after updating to iOS 16: Your data is safe. Follow the migration steps above using your mSecure 4 password.
- If you can log in using Face ID/Touch ID but forgot your password: Try different password variations. If unsuccessful, contact [email protected].
- If you forgot your password and relied on biometric login: There is no way to recover it. Try common variations of your password.
Migrating from mSecure 3 (Mac & Windows)
Mac Migration
- Ensure mSecure 3 is still installed or that its database file is in its default location.
- Open mSecure 3 and unlock it with your password.
- Click File > Backup, then save the backup to your Desktop.
- Open mSecure 6 and sign in.
- Click File > Restore, select your .msim backup file, and click Open.
Your data will now appear in mSecure 6 and sync across your devices if enabled.
Windows Migration
- Locate your mSecure backup file (.msim) in (C:\User\YourUserName\Documents\mSecure\Backup) or create a new backup. (Open mSecure 3, go to File > Backup, and save the file to your Desktop).
- Open mSecure 6 and sign in.
- Click the Settings (gear) icon > Backups.
- Click Restore Data, select your backup file, and click Open.
Your data will now appear in mSecure 6 and sync across your devices if enabled.
Troubleshooting (Mac & Windows)
- If you forgot your password for mSecure 3: Unfortunately, there is no recovery method. Try different password variations.
