Migrate to mSecure 6

Are you migrating from a previous version of mSecure to mSecure 6? This guide will help you smoothly transition from mSecure 3 or mSecure 4 into our latest version, mSecure 6!

In order to migrate your data into mSecure 6, you must:

  • Have access to your mSecure database on at least one device
  • Know your password for your older version of mSecure or a backup from an older version of mSecure

If you are having trouble with this, please contact us at [email protected]

Account Setup

To begin, download mSecure 6 from your device's app store by clicking the links below!

Once you have downloaded mSecure 6 on your device, you will need to create an account by clicking "Sign Up". You may use the same email address for your current mSecure application, though it is a brand new account as mSecure 6 runs on an account system rather than being device-specific.

If you receive a message saying "that account already exists", then please contact us at [email protected] and we will assist you in regaining access to your account.

iOS

Migrating from mSecure 4

You will want to make sure that the previous version of mSecure is still installed on your device.

If you are migrating your data from mSecure 4, you are in one of three scenarios:

    a) You are an mSecure 4 user and you have never created an account in mSecure 5 or 6 (Visit this chapter of the video)

    b) You are an mSecure 4 user and you have created an account in mSecure 5 or 6, but do not know the password to your account (Visit this chapter of the video)

    c) You are an mSecure 4 user and you have created an account in mSecure 5 or 6, but do not have your Authentication QR Code (Visit this chapter of the video)

To migrate your data from mSecure 4 to mSecure 6 with the app still installed:

  1. Open mSecure 6 and click Sign In (or Sign Up if you have not created an account in mSecure 6 yet)
  2. Once you are able to log in, mSecure 6 will ask you if you would like to migrate your previous mSecure information.
  3. Click "Yes"
  4. Enter your password used to enter mSecure 4 (this will decrypt your data)

Note: You can also go to Menu > Settings > Restore from mSecure 4 if you are not asked when signing in

To migrate your data with a *.msim backup file or migration file:

  1. Open mSecure 6 and click Sign In (or Sign Up if you have not created an account in mSecure 6 yet)
  2. Go to Menu > Settings > Backups and tap "Restore"
  3. Locate your backup file in your Files and tap the file
  4. Enter your password (this will be the password used to unlock your account during the time the backup was created)

Once your password is entered, your data will begin to appear in your mSecure 6 database. If you choose to use a syncing method for your devices, you will see your data elsewhere within moments of opening Secure on your other device(s).

Troubleshooting for migrating on iOS

I've updated my OS to iOS 16 and mSecure 4 no longer opens. What can I do?

Since mSecure 4 does not receive bug fixes or updates, newer OS updates on your device will affect the app itself. Your data is safe, and as long as you know your mSecure 4 password you can still migrate your data into mSecure 6 using the same directions.

I can log into mSecure 4 using Face ID/Touch ID, but I forgot my password. What can I do?

If you can log into mSecure 4 using Touch or Face ID but do not know your password, we recommend you try different variants of what you believe your password was. If you still are unable to find your password, please contact us at [email protected]
