Transfer Information from mSecure 4 to mSecure 7 on Your Mobile Device

This guide explains how to backup your data from mSecure 4 on iOS or Android and restore it in mSecure 7.

When you install mSecure 7 on a device that previously had mSecure 4, the app will attempt to guide you through the migration automatically. If that migration was skipped or didn't occur, you can manually create a backup from mSecure 4 and restore it in mSecure 7 using the steps below.

iOS

To transfer your data to mSecure 7 on iOS, you'll need Apple's Mail app. If you need help setting it up, see this article.

Step 1: Create a Backup in mSecure 4

  1. Open mSecure 4 and unlock it with Touch ID or your password.
  2. Tap the Settings icon in the bottom toolbar.
  3. Tap Email Backup to create a backup of your data.
  4. In the "To" field, enter an email address you can open from the Mail app on your iOS device.
  5. Tap Send in the top-right corner to email the backup to yourself.

Step 2: Restore in mSecure 7

  1. Open the Mail app and find the email with your backup file.
  2. Tap the attachment to open it.
  3. Tap mSecure in the row of app icons. Note: Since mSecure 4 is still installed, you may see two "mSecure" icons - select the dark mSecure 7 icon.
  4. If you don't see "mSecure" in the list, tap More, then choose it from the full list.
  5. mSecure 7 will open - unlock it with Face ID, Touch ID, or your password.
  6. Tap "Restore" when prompted.

Once complete, your data will appear in mSecure 7. If sync is enabled, it will sync to all devices signed in to the same mSecure account within a few minutes.

Android

To transfer your data to mSecure 7 on Android, follow these steps.

Step 1: Create a Local Backup in mSecure 4

  1. Open mSecure 4 and unlock the app.
  2. Tap the mSecure icon in the upper-left corner, or swipe from the left edge.
  3. Tap Settings at the bottom of the menu.
  4. Scroll down, tap Backup, then select Internal SD Card.
  5. Tap Continue to create the backup in internal storage.
  6. Tap OK when prompted.

Your backup is now saved in the mSecure folder within your device's main storage. The file name includes the date and time it was created.

Step 2: Restore in mSecure 7

Choose the option that matches your situation.

Option A: Restoring on the Same Device

  1. Open mSecure 7 and unlock the app.
  2. Tap the menu icon in the top-left corner.

First, transfer your backup file to the new phone:

  • Email: Attach the backup file to an email, send it to yourself, then download it to the Downloads folder on your new phone.

Then restore it:

  1. Open mSecure 7 and unlock the app.
  2. Tap the menu icon in the top-left corner.
  3. Tap Settings at the bottom of the menu.
  4. Scroll down and tap Restore.
  5. Navigate to the Downloads folder.
  6. Select the backup file you transferred.
  7. Enter the password you used to unlock mSecure 4 to finish the restore.

Alternative Migration Method (Android Only)

If you're on mSecure 4.0.5 or 4.0.6 for Android, the app automatically creates a migration file you can restore from directly in mSecure 7:

  1. Open mSecure 7 and unlock the app.
  2. Tap the menu icon in the top-left corner.
  3. Tap Settings.
  4. Tap Restore.
  5. Tap the back arrow twice (top-left).

mSecure 7 will restore your data from the migration file automatically.
