Email Backups

Learn how to create and restore email backups of your mSecure data.

Note: The Mail app will open with the backup file attached. Enter an email address you have access to and send the email.


iOS

Create an Email Backup

  1. Open and log in to mSecure.
  2. Tap the menu icon (three horizontal lines).
  3. Tap Settings. 
  4. Tap Email Backup.
  5. Tap Continue. 


Restore from an Email Backup

  1. Open the Mail app on your iOS device and find the email with the backup file attached. 
  2. Tap the attachment, then select mSecure from the row of apps. If you don't see mSecure, tap More and select it from the list. 
  3. After mSecure opens, use Face ID, Touch ID, or your password to unlock the app. 
  4. Enter the backup's password and tap Restore. 

Important: Restoring a backup will overwrite your current mSecure data and sync changes to all signed-in devices if mSecure Cloud is enabled. 


Android

Create an Email Backup

  1. Open and log in to mSecure.
  2. Tap the menu icon (three horizontal lines).
  3. Tap Settings.
  4. Tap Backup.
  5. Tap Yes to create a backup.
  6. Close mSecure and open your Files app. 
  7. Navigate to Internal Storage > mSecure (or mSecure 5) > Backups. 
  8. Tap your backup file, then tap Share and open it in your email app.
  9. Enter an email address you have access to and send the email. 


Restore from an Email Backup

  1. Open your email app and find the email with the backup file attached.
  2. Download the backup file.
  3. Close the email app and open mSecure.
  4. Navigate to Menu > Settings > Restore.
  5. Find and select your backup file.
  6. Enter the backup's password and tap Restore. 

Important: Restoring a backup will sync changes to all signed-in devices if syncing is enabled. 


Mac

Create an Email Backup

  1. Open and log in to mSecure.
  2. Click File in the menu bar. 
  3. Select Backup.
  4. Choose a location to save the backup (e.g., Desktop) and click Backup.
  5. Close mSecure and open your Mail app or a web browser to access your email.
  6. Create a new email.
  7. Click the Attachment icon and select your backup file.
  8. Enter an email address you have access to and send the email.


Restore from an Email Backup

  1. Open your email app and find the email with the backup file attached.
  2. Download the backup file to your Desktop.
  3. Close the email app and open mSecure.
  4. Enter your mSecure password (or use Touch ID) to unlock the app.
  5. In the menu bar, click File > Restore. 
  6. Select the downloaded backup file and click Open.
  7. Enter the backup's password and click Restore. 

To overwrite your current data, check the Replace box.

To merge the backup with your current data, leave the box unchecked. 

Important: Restoring or merging a backup will sync changes to all signed-in devices if syncing is enabled. 


Windows

Create an Email Backup

  1. Open and log in to mSecure.
  2. Click the Settings icon in the lower-left corner.
  3. Click Backups.
  4. Click Backup Now!.
  5. Choose a location to save the backup (e.g., Desktop).
  6. Close mSecure and open your email app or a web browser to access your email.
  7. Create a new email.
  8. Click the Attachment icon and select your backup file.
  9. Enter an email address you have access to and send the email.


Restore from an Email Backup

  1. Open your email app and find the email with the backup file attached.
  2. Download the backup file to your Desktop. 
  3. Close the email app and open mSecure.
  4. Enter your mSecure password to unlock the app.
  5. Click the Settings icon.
  6. Navigate to Backups and click Restore Data.
  7. Select the downloaded backup file and click Open. 

Important: Restoring or merging a backup will sync changes to all signed-in devices if syncing is enabled.
