Install or Move Microsoft Store Apps to a Different Drive

If your computer is running low on storage, you want to use a faster drive, or you simply prefer to keep apps in a separate location, follow these steps.

Install Microsoft Store Apps on a Separate Drive

To change the default installation location for new Microsoft Store apps:

  1. Open Settings.
  2. Click on System.
  3. Click on Storage.
  4. Under Save locations, find New apps will save to and select your preferred drive.

Once you complete these steps, any new apps downloaded from the Microsoft Store will be installed in the selected location.

Moving Installed Microsoft Store Apps to Another Drive

If you already have apps installed but want to relocate them without changing the default installation location:

  1. Open Settings.
  2. Click on System.
  3. Click on Apps & Features.
  4. Select the app you want to move.
  5. Click the Move button.
  6. Choose the new drive from the drop-down menu.
  7. Click Move again to confirm.

If the Move option isn't available for an app, you can uninstall it, follow the steps to change the default save location, and then reinstall it from the Microsoft Store.
