Import Data into mSecure

mSecure can import your data from several other password managers, as well as from a standard CSV file. Before you start, check whether your old app is on the list below – if it is, the file imports directly and you will not need to reformat anything.

Supported file types:

CSV

Keychain CSV

SplashID VID

1Password 1PIF

1Password 1PUX

DataViz Passwords Plus CSV

Where to find Import

iPhone and iPad

  1. Open and unlock mSecure.
  2. Tap the menu icon in the top left.
  3. Tap Settings at the bottom of the menu.
  4. Tap Import under Sync & Backup.
  5. Choose the file type you are importing from.

Mac

  1. Open and unlock mSecure.
  2. Click File in the menu bar.
  3. Hover over Import.
  4. Choose the file type you are importing from.

Importing from 1Password

mSecure imports both 1Password export formats directly. Check the file extension on the file you exported and choose the matching option – 1Password 1PIF for a .1pif file, or 1Password 1PUX for a .1pux file. No spreadsheet work is required for either.

Importing from another password manager

If your old password manager is not listed above, export your data to a CSV file and use the CSV option. A CSV from another product will need its columns rearranged to match mSecure's format before it will import correctly.

Two things to do first:

  • Create any record types and tags you need in mSecure before importing. Rows that refer to a record type that does not exist will fail.
  • Import your logins first, on their own, and confirm they came across correctly before importing cards, notes and identities.

After importing

Check that the number of records in mSecure matches the number in your old app, and open a few records to confirm each field holds what it should – a misaligned column can put a password in the website field. Only delete your old account once you have confirmed the data is correct.

Your other devices will receive the imported records on their next sync.
