Why mSecure 4 May Be Crashing - and What That Means for Your Data

Some users are currently experiencing crashes, freezing, or unlock issues when opening mSecure 4. This article explains why this is happening, what it means for your data, and what to keep in mind as the next steps.

You do not need to read this article to migrate your data. If you're looking for step-by-step instructions, you can go directly to the platform-specific migration guides.

Why Is mSecure 4 Crashing?

mSecure 4 is an older version of the app that has not been supported or updated for over 8 years. As mobile operating systems (iOS and Android) continue to evolve, older apps may eventually stop functioning correctly.

Recent OS updates have caused mSecure 4 to:

  • Crash on launch
  • Crash when unlocking
  • Become unstable or unresponsive

These types of issues are common with unsupported apps and, unfortunately, cannot be fixed at this point.

Is My Data Lost?

No - your data has not been deleted.

mSecure 4 stores your information locally on your device. Even if the app is crashing or not opening reliably, your data still exists and can usually be moved into mSecure 6, the current version of mSecure.

Most users are able to access their data again once migration is completed.

Important Things to Know

Before taking any action, please keep the following in mind:

  • mSecure 4 and mSecure 6 are completely separate apps
  • Data does not automatically transfer between them
  • mSecure 6 requires signing in or creating an account
  • Your mSecure 4 password or previous biometric access may be required to migrate your data

Do Not Uninstall mSecure 4 Yet

Please do not uninstall mSecure 4 unless one of the following is true:

  • You can already see your data inside mSecure 6
  • You have contacted mSecure Support and confirmed your options

Because mSecure 4 stores data locally, uninstalling the app too early can result in permanent data loss.

What Happens Next?

Depending on your situation, you may be able to:

  • Migrate your data directly into mSecure 6
  • Restore from a backup created in mSecure 4
  • Recover data using previous biometric access

Platform-specific and scenario-based guidelines are available to walk you through the correct steps.
