MSecure account password

The documentation regarding accounts is lengthy but still doesn’t explain much. I want to change the password I log into this website with, and do not want to change my mSecure password used to unlock my data in the app. I do not sync with mSecure, I sync with Dropbox. I realize it’s convenient for you to have your “cloud” features, but frankly it looks like a security issue from the outside, despite a random small corporation’s assurances otherwise. In actuality I’d like to simply delete this account and continue using mSecure, but I can’t tell if that’s even a thing that’s possible due to the licensing “feature”. How do I change the password I log into msecure.com, and can I delete my account here and continue to use mSecure?

Hi Matt,

Thank you for contacting us and I'm sorry about the issue you are experiencing.  https://support.msecure.com, this website, is completely separate from our account system or app. I'm not sure I understand the rest of your question here.

  1. mSecure 5 requires an account.
  2. This account system is new to mSecure 5.
  3. This support website is not related to our app directly in any way
  4. If referring to our mSecure account system and mSecure 5:
    1. Your mSecure account password is used to sign in to an account and unlock the app once signed in
    2. Your account password is not what is used to encrypt your information
    3. If not using our mSecure Cloud syncing option, none of your data is stored in our system
    4. All information, regardless of sync feature used, is encrypted locally, in transit, and at rest.
    5. You can learn more about our security model here: https://www.msecure.com/security
  5. You cannot use mSecure 5 without an account.
  6. You can always download our previous apps: https://support.msecure.com/en/support/solutions/articles/36000064249
I want to change my mSecure account password. Where can I do that?

Hi Matt,

You can change your mSecure account password within mSecure 5: https://support.msecure.com/en/support/solutions/articles/36000064490

So my password used to access my logins and such within the app is required to match my mSecure.com login? No security concern there. 

Yes, that is correct. We have no security concerns with our account system. We monitor our system hourly and patch updates weekly to ensure the most up to date security. Beyond that:

  1. Your mSecure account password is not what is used to encrypt your data
    1. Your randomly generated 46 character account key is used to encrypt your data
  2. All data is encrypted with 256bit AES encryption locally, in transit, and online
  3. All app communication is done with TLS/SSL encryption
  4. Decryption only happens locally on your devices
  5. You can choose where you save/store your data.
    1. mSecure Cloud - Our system
      1. Data is stored on our system. We use AWS (Amazon Web Services) EC2 and S3 services.
      2. Data is encrypted and we have no access to either your account key nor account password.
    2. iCloud - Apple Devices only
      1. Data is stored in Apple's system. Apple uses AWS S3 and Google Cloud.
      2. Data is encrypted and we have no access to either your account key nor account password.
    3. Dropbox
      1. Data is stored in Dropbox's system. They use to use AWS. Now have their fully owned system.
      2. Data is encrypted and we have no access to either your account key nor account password.
      3. You currently have Dropbox syncing enabled for your account so none of your information is in our system in any form.
    4. WiFi syncing - Locally only
      1. Your computer acts as the sync server.
      2. Data is encrypted and we have no access to either your account key nor account password.
      3. Most advanced syncing option. However, you are fully in control of your data here.
