Managing 2 separate accounts

I have 2 mSecure licenses. One is my own, the other was purchased on behalf of my boss to manage her logins. I enter new logins for her on my desktop computer and they show up on her phone. There's some overlap which I don't mind double-entering.

How can I log in and out of the two accounts on desktop in order to access both? It would be nice to be able to have them both open at once but at present I can't even work out how to log in to the other account.

I realize the Vault system was created for scenarios such as these but we don't wish to move to a subscription model which I understand is required for the Vault feature.

Hi Carey,

Thank you for contacting us. In order for you to switch accounts on the same device, you will need to uninstall and reinstall the mSecure app to "Sign In" to a new account. If it is a Mac, you will need to reset the app in order to "Sign In" to the other account. Please follow these steps in order to reset mSecure on Mac:

  1. Open mSecure, and you should see the lock screen waiting for your master password.
  2. In the Menu bar, click Help and hold down the Option key on your keyboard.
  3. While holding the Option key, click Show Data File in Finder. A new Finder window should open.
  4. Move the mSecure.mscb file to the Trash.
  5. Close mSecure.

If you are using Wi-Fi syncing, which I can see your current account is showing that it is, you will need to make sure you have access to your data on a different device before resetting or uninstalling the app on a device. If you used a cloud service like mSecure Cloud, you wouldn't need to worry about this.

Did these steps work for you?

Hi Mark,

Thank you for providing these steps. Looking through them, it seems unworkable to manage two accounts on the same device as I have been doing up to now.  I imagined one could log out and just log back in to the other account, but it seems that's not the case. Am I understanding correctly?

You and I had an email exchange back in June where I understood what you told me to be implying otherwise. We have 2 pro accounts and one (my boss's) syncs via iCloud and the other (my personal) via wifi.

Can you please clarify?

Hi Carey,

Thank you for your response. With mSecure, there is no "Logging Out" of an account, but uninstalling and reinstalling the app gets the app in a fresh state so you can "Sign In" to a different account.

Regarding the previous ticket we had together, I can see that I was helping you through a Wi-Fi sync issue which you had your account on the Mac and your iOS device. Since you have access to your data on your iOS device, if you completed a reset on your Mac to sign in to a different account, your data would still be on your iOS device. Once you are ready to sign in to your account on your Mac again, your data can then be synced over from your iOS device to your Mac if they are on the same connection.

If you have any questions about this process, please let me know and I will explain it further.

Hi Mark,

I appreciate your reviewing the previous ticket conversation we had going. Previous to the Wifi sync issue you mention, I described my use case of an account for my personal logins still running mSecure 3.5 on Mojave, and my boss' logins using mSecure 6. I was able to have these open at the same time. When I updated to Sequoia, my 32-bit mSecure 3.5 no longer worked so you helped me migrate the data to mSecure 6. Since then, I have not been able to access the account serving my boss' login information.

It is not feasible for me to uninstall and reinstall the app several times a day in order to access both accounts.

Is the Vault feature an option here? What concessions are necessary if so (using cloud sync, for example)?

Hi Carey,

I understand the issue completely now. If you are not willing to delete a database file everytime you want to switch an account, the only other options you have to access your boss's data is to either restore all of the data on your boss's account on your account or both accounts wills need to purchase a premium subscription in order for you both to share data between accounts. This would also require you to change your sync type to mSecure Cloud which will allow you to sync data between accounts. If the premium subscription route sounds like a better plan, please visit our website to look at our prices and I will assist further: https://www.msecure.com/plans

Hi Mark,

Can you clarify the first option: "restore all of the data on your boss's account on your account"

I don't understand that.

Carey

Hi Carey,

Thank you for your response. If you are able to unlock the mSecure app in your boss's account, you can then create a backup file, sign in to your account, and then restore that data on your account which will mean you have all of your boss's data on your account and your own personal data as well. Your account would not effect your boss's account in this option, but you would have all of the data that is currently being displayed on your boss's account.

If this does not sound like a viable option, then only other option would be to get your accounts set to be able to share data between accounts.

Hi Mark,

I understand now. No, that would not be a viable solution in this case.

I have Parallels running a virtual machine for unrelated reasons, so I think my next move is to try to run my boss' mSecure there.

Carey

Hi Carey,

Ok, I understand. Please let me know if you want to try the other option of getting a premium subscription for your boss's account and I will assist further as needed.
