Request to Downgrade back to 5.x Pro

I don't mind paying for upgrades per major version but not a monthly plan/yearly plan.

Example 4. x to 5. x

I logged into my computer today and noticed that 6.0 was installed on my machine automatically without my permission.  I understand that since I paid for 5.x Pro I get the stripped-down features of mSecure 6.0 for free.  What this tells me is that once 7.0 comes out my data will be a hostage to upgrade or lose my data.  No Thanks!

I don't do monthly or yearly plans because they stack up easy and I can't keep track they always end up charging me at the worst possible time and I occur a $32 bank fee.

I would rather pay by the version so I decide when to update, AKA: (When I get paid and think your software is worth it.)  With this new pricing plan, you are taking this out of my hands.  So I am forced to take it back by finding another software to use.

I never upgrade to the cutting edge until all the bugs are worked out...  For Example the 6.0

- The Record Editor Fields do not align up correctly on larger screens.

- The Light and Dark Options are Crap compared to 4.x and 5.x versions...

- Forced Premium Trial - No Way to Cancel out of it.. Adds extra crap in the way that I don't need.

- Several of my Records Crash the Software on PC but works fine on my Apple Phone.

I loved your software with my experience 4.x and 5.x and have suggested it to many of my students in the Army where I teach 25B (Information Technology Specialist) MOS.  No Referral because of profiting rules.... but I was glad to recommend it. 400/700 Students a year for the past 4 years. (Your software was a great example of easy it could be to keep up with tons of passwords, without having to recall any of them...)  Many people use one password for everything and a huge security risk.

With the new pricing plan, I will not be referring anyone else and I will not be using your software past the trial version.  I also will be sending past students to ditch the software once I find a suitable solution.  Even if I have to learn C++ and QT (www.qt.io) Open Source and build it myself.

I am so pissed off I could scream!!!

You could have at least given me the opportunity to upgrade when I wanted to instead of being thrust into bug-ridden software and forced to swim.

I too am disgusted at this "upgrade".    I BOUGHT version 5.

Unless every single bit of functionality that I had in version 5 is available to me in version 6 - with no monthly subscription, I will be moving over to another product.  I don't want to be seeing any nagging screens either.

I wonder why there has been NO response from tech support? Do they want this bad momentum to gather? This isn't the way to treat customers. Sometimes I think businesses forget that customers talk to real people and make recommendations and bring indirect sales of variable value sometimes $50, sometimes $5000. This is hard to quantify, but it does happen. Communicate with your customers, don't stone wall us, we're unhappy. Reversion to v5 please!

If i was to invoice Msecure for the lost hours i've spent on this debacle...

And yes, there was no pre-ship email in my inbox

I also have a direct ticket opened with mSecure support that I opened on Saturday about this but no response as of yet. I'll keep you informed.

I guess ultimately I don't mind if I have to remain on Version 6, but only providing that absolutely every feature that I had before is still available (without subscription)

On the "learn more page" it lists the premium features that require a subscription, and it lists at least 2 premium features that were included in Version 5.

1) Syncing (cloud & WiFi

2) Biometric Unlock (Touch / Face ID)

Some of the other premium features I suspect I had before, but I'm not sure which... I didn't use every feature of V5.

Mike said above

You will have access to all of the features you had in mSecure 5 at no cost.

But that is not what it says in the app currently.

One thing is clear, mSecure have handled this whole upgrade thing very badly indeed.

1) Version 6 should have been a different version (and not auto upgraded to)

2) As a user who paid for the full version of the software, I should not be upgraded to a trial version of the software, even if that just gives me extra functionality temporarily.

3) It should have been user choice whether to try the "trial" premium version.

4) The information in the app should indicate correctly what features I will continue to have full access to after the trial ends, rather than implying I will lose functionality that I already had. (e.g. syncing/unlock above)

 @Shane

It's obvious that mSecure does not care.   Yes, they may have pissed off a few persons, they expected that, and those few are going to leave, but what the hell, they'll get new subscribers.    I'm currently working to migrate away to something else.  It's going to take some work on my part to get my data transferred, but I've decided that msecure is no longer an option for me.

Daryl

I did a trawl back through a few other threads on the forum and one says that, whilst Tags have replaced Groups, and that Tags are a premium feature, the essentials licence will still allow one tag per entry.  So, whilst we've lost groups, the functionality should still be present.  The window showing premium features may be misleading in other ways, as it appears to say that syncing, restoring backups,  biometric unlocking, etc. are only premium features.  If, however, only the first six items in the feature list (with white stars) are exclusive to Premium, whilst the rest (with yellow stars) are in Essentials, the upgrade probably hasn't lost significant functionality.  Notwithstanding, the mSeven approach is poor - probably dreamt up by a marketing adviser suggesting that it will "encourage" some users who would otherwise be content with essentials (basically a v5 refresh) to subscribe; losing existing users is not a concern as they've already paid all they're going to pay.

That may sound cynical, but it's a possible reading of the approach - how mSeven proceed in response to the reaction in the forum will show how wrong that particular interpretation is.

Just joining the back of this and found that version 6 had appeared without me knowing.  I was presented with a window telling me I had 30 days left to upgrade.  There was mention of Essentials and Pro but to be honest it's a good few years that I started with free versions and then upgraded to a paid version.  I wouldn't have known what I had being of very senior age.  I did upgrade thinking I had no option and feel I have been misled here.  I also now find the my App versions on my iPhone and iPad are telling me I need to upgrade and go to the app store.  I looked there but could find anything.  I think the whole "update" process has been badly handled. I have issued a ticket asking for a refund so I can continue with the features that I had on v5.

Hi Steve,

Thank you for contacting us. I'm not sure what you are seeing, but no where have we stated that the features you are talking about are only in Premium. Everyone in the app and on the site tell you that the Essentials subscription includes the features listed below. Tags are little bit confusing, because it is not listed in Essentials, because the full feature is only available in the Premium subscription tier. However, as a V5 paid user, you will have access to all of the features in V5. Therefore, you will at least be able to add one tag to a record.

Please look at this page for more information on the plans: msecure.com/plans/

Hi Mike,

Part of the source of confusion is this dialog that appears in the mSecure app.
Nothing on that dialog box explains the different colour coding, so based on the information  in the dlalog, you have to assume that everything listed is a premium feature.

If nothing else, you should fix that confusing dialog, because it clearly shows  Syncing and Biometric unlock are premium features,

@Mike - mSecure, there are a few of us complaining here about being forced to v6. It appears, it's not accidental either. My iPad is also now mysteriously on v6 when i explicitly wanted to avoid that.

Uncool! I'm truly pissed, you've messed with a system that didn't need breaking. I'm hoping i can revert back to v5.

I'll pay a one off fee for V5 PLEASE. Earn some money off people who would be otherwise leaving.

You can't just upgrade people who have workflows they depend on. I can't sync to my master account as it's stuck on v5 being on Mac OS 10.12 Sierra.

Help please!

@Elizabeth Thank you for the screenshot, because that actually helps me understand a lot of what's happening. The silver and gold dots before the features are supposed to be delineating between plans, but the information on that screen slipped by us and will be updated ASAP.

To be clear, nothing you may see in the app changes what we have on our website and the communications we sent out before the release. If you have a v5 license, you will get an Essentials subscription at no cost. When the Premium trial expires, your account will be an Essentials account.

Mike,  Further to my earlier post (apologes for not addressing to to you direct), I still cannot find the upgrade versions on the App Store for my mobile devices.  I do see the 'Key" icon of yours but the  only option is to press"OPEN" which basically just starts my original OLD version.   I have also tried setting up the Apple watch but this will not allow it to be installed on the watch.  It did previous upload but never got anywhere due to a 'password' issue. As others have mentioned they is now no syncing between devices but perhaps that is because the mobile devices haven't updated yet.  I await responses from my 'tickets' and note that you are very busy answering queries!

Hi,

hi I have already opened a support ticket but maybe it helps one or the other. Or one or the other also has my problems:

I had the misfortune of having to completely reinstall Msecure 5 when the sync was already not working due to the switch to v.6.

1. the login button and the registration button are swapped (in German). If you click on login you get to the registration form and vice versa.

2. after the registration I am not asked for the security key but I could simply log in without security key or QR Code (security problem ?)

3. after the login the app asks me for a backup folder. When I then select the msecure5/backup folder the hint appears that I am only allowed to specify the msecure5/backup folder ? Then It shows the hint that I should give the app the rights to access the folder. There I clicked on agree.

The app starts normally.

4. in the settings I can only scroll to Sync, Backup and Restore. The menu items below are not accessible. So I can't see if the backup folder is set up correctly.

5. All menu items under the Sync, Backup and Restore header are inaccessible to me. I would like to use Android Autofill. When is planned to show this option to me ?

6.Also, the linked apps in the "Login" entries have disappeared.

7. The app creates a new "kennword" field, because apparently the entries between msecure 5 and 6 do not match. One time the kennword field is stored with a capital "K" one time with a small "k".

oh, regarding the "kennword" field: There is also the german version "Kennwort" in some entries.

Mike, et al.

The updates to mSecure6 finally showed up on the Apple App Store and Google Play. Both my Android tablet and iPhone updated successfully; sync is functioning as expected between my Win10 computer, Android tablet, and iPhone. I am syncing through Dropbox.

Overall, I like the look/feel of mSecure6 on my computer (Win10). I like the fact that I can create new templates and reorder fields in the built-in templates. I don't mind the fact that it's subscription-based. Subscriptions have become the new norm for software (Quicken and MS Office, for example). Assuming that the subscription means that bugs and patches are downloaded and installed automatically as soon as they're available and that new features are added regularly, I believe that paying for a subscription beats waiting for updates and fixes that only happen once a year or so.

My only complaint thus far is that there's very little documentation (as in none) on what the icons at the top of the iPhone app are. In fact, there's very little documentation for using any of the features. I've been using mSecure since 2012 and have "grown up" with it, gradually learning new features as they've been added.

@Robert I'm not sure what's keeping V6 from being available in the App Store, but you should have no problems downloading it. The reason it hasn't happened automatically is because it's set rollout gradually, which means the App Store chooses random users for the automatic upgrade. However, the nice thing about the App Store is that even in gradual rollout mode, users can still manually download the update in the App Store app.

Real quick, go ahead and open the App Store app on your iOS devices, then tap the circular icon in the top right of the screen (probably has your portrait in it). In the Accounts page that pops up, scroll down to the updates section. Do you see any updates, and if so, do you see mSecure in the list?
